Volunteer Opportunities
Have a passion for aviation? Become a volunteer
Want to surround yourself with aviation enthusiasts? Then sign up to volunteer with us. The CR Smith Museum has a great group of enthusiastic volunteers who provide many essential services to the museum. Volunteers greet visitors, help with after-hours events and programs, help with SIMs among other things. It’s a fun way to get involved, meet new people and learn about the fascinating world of aviation. Note: you must be at least 16 to volunteer with us and will be required to pass a background check.
Check out our upcoming opportunities and sign up for something today! Alternatively, if you would like more information, email us at volunteers@crsmithmuseum.org.
FAQs
What is a Greeter – Gate Counter?
A Greeter is the first person a visitor to the Museum will meet. They welcome visitors and direct them to the Museum Store where they can purchase admission tickets or simply shop. The Greeter will also make PA announcements letting guests know when the next showing of the Museum movie will be playing in the theatre. Don’t worry, there is a script for this! They will then make sure guests are seated in the movie before starting the movie – again, this is easy – it’s just one button!
What is a Facilitator – Flight Simulators?
The Facilitator is stationed at the, always popular, flight simulators. Their duties include booting up the computers and starting the flight simulator software. The Facilitator encourages guests to take a seat and try a take-off or landing! Between guests, the Facilitator will reset the machine (one button) and clean the controllers. If you are finishing your shift at the end of the day, you will shut the computers down.
Do you offer virtual volunteer opportunities?
No. We only have opportunities for in-person volunteers at the moment. We are situated in Fort Worth on the American Airlines Headquarters Campus. Or full address is CR Smith Museum, 4601 Hwy 360, Fort Worth, TX 76155.
What is the minimum age for volunteers?
Our volunteers work independently which can be challenging for some younger volunteers. We generally recommend 16 years and up. However, if you have a teenager that is eager, we invite you to sign up and bring them along to your shift.
What availability do you have?
We currently have slots on Thursday’s from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as well as Friday’s and Saturday’s from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
What is the minimum time commitment for a volunteer?
Due to the need to train volunteers and to plan staffing, we ask that volunteers reach 24 hours (6 slots) of volunteering within three months of signing up.
What is your dress code?
We are a public-facing organization so it’s important to look clean and presentable. We are generally relaxed with attire – smart jeans and a polo/shirt works. We also have volunteer polo shirts we will provide once you meet your minimum number of hours.
